Manchester United target Sergi Roberto has put to bed any talk of a potential move away by signing a new contract with Barcelona until 2022.
The Spaniard emerged on Man United’s radar following a superb season under Luis Enrique during which he impressed at both right back and in midfield.
And Roberto has stamped out the possibility of moving elsewhere by extending his future at the Nou Camp until 2022.
The 26-year-old was never high on United’s list of priorities in the summer but perhaps he should’ve been.
Following the arrival of Paulinho and Nelson Semedo, it felt as if Roberto could be tempted away with the guarantee of regular playing time, and with United desperately lacking diverse options in the midfield and full-back area his natural mobility on the ball, along with bucketloads of energy, would have come in handy.
But he is a Barcelona fan at heart and you can hardly blame him for committing his best years to the club he loves. Mourinho will need to look elsewhere for reinforcements in the summer.
